Makati City, Philippines — Every designer starts somewhere. For many young creatives, that first step begins with the opportunity to explore an idea, challenge their imagination, and experience what it’s like to create inside a real design studio.
This spirit came to life at Beyond the Sketch: Pre-College Culminating Program and Exhibit 2026 (Batch 2), where SoFA Design Institute celebrated the creative achievements of students who completed its Design Discovery and Fashion Lab Pre-College Programs.

Families, faculty members, and the SoFA community gathered to recognize the students’ work as they transformed weeks of exploration into thoughtful creative projects. The exhibition featured works in Interior Design and Fashion Design, showcasing concept boards, fashion illustrations, design studies, and creative prototypes that reflected each student’s unique perspective and growth throughout the program.
More than a showcase of finished projects, Beyond the Sketch offered a glimpse into how SoFA nurtures creativity—through immersive studio experiences, hands-on mentorship, and a learning environment that encourages curiosity, experimentation, and collaboration.

Unlike traditional classroom learning, SoFA’s approach places students in a studio culture where ideas are developed through making, critique, iteration, and creative problem-solving. Guided by practicing designers and experienced educators, participants experienced firsthand how professional designers think, collaborate, and bring ideas to life.
Designed for Junior and Senior High School students, SoFA’s Pre-College Programs help aspiring designers make more informed decisions about their future by allowing them to experience what studying a design major is truly like. Rather than simply attending workshops, participants immerse themselves in studio-based learning, develop creative projects, and receive mentorship from practicing designers—providing a realistic glimpse into college life at SoFA.

Every project presented during the exhibition told a different story. Some students arrived with years of artistic experience, while others entered with little more than curiosity. By the end of the program, each had transformed an initial idea into a tangible creative outcome—demonstrating that creativity is not simply an innate talent, but a skill that can be developed through guidance, practice, and mentorship.
As creative careers continue to evolve across industries, SoFA Design Institute believes that exposing young people to design early empowers them to make more informed decisions about their future. Whether pursuing fashion, interiors, entrepreneurship, branding, or other creative disciplines, students benefit from experiencing an education that reflects the realities of today’s design profession.
As a boutique design school, SoFA is known for its highly immersive, studio-based learning environment, where students receive close mentorship from accomplished faculty members and practicing industry professionals. Its business-driven creative programs prepare graduates not only to become skilled designers, but creative thinkers capable of building sustainable careers and meaningful impact in the creative economy.
For many students, the Pre-College Programs become more than a summer experience—they become the first chapter of a much larger creative journey.
