Music has a way of bringing people together by turning personal experiences, cultural influences, and everyday emotions into songs that cross borders. This was the heart of the first FILSCAP Asia Songwriting Master Camp 2026. Here, well-known songwriters from across Asia met to explore new sounds, swap ideas, and create fresh music.
Hosted by the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (FILSCAP), the camp took place from October 4-7 at Kamana Sanctuary Spa Resort, Subic Bay, Zambales. Songwriters from India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam joined in, bringing together a mix of musical styles, languages, and creative viewpoints.
For these musicians, songwriting was more than just a skill. It was a chance to see things from different angles, find new ways to tell stories, and unite through melodies and lyrics. Like fashion and travel, music expresses how we see the world, and working together gives these experiences new life.

Eight Original Songs, Countless Creative Perspectives
The camp culminated in a Showcase Night on October 7 at Seda Manila Bay, where eight original compositions were presented to representatives from record labels, music publishers, and other music industry professionals.
The songs included “Restart,” “What If?,” “Dear, Bro!,” “Mr. Peter Pan,” “Will You?,” “F Word,” “This Is How You Take Care of Her,” and “Runnin’.” Each songwriting group shared insights into its creative process, revealing how individual ideas and experiences evolved into collaborative works.
“Restart” stood out, offered in both multilingual and English versions, illustrating how one song can take on different forms while keeping the creators’ vision.
The showcase highlighted the chance for songwriters to take their work into the world. Record labels could show interest in recording these new songs, possibly turning collaborations into hits.
Building Connections Through Music
Beyond the eight songs, the master camp fostered relationships that could lead to future projects across the region. By working alongside fellow hitmakers from different backgrounds, participants gained opportunities to exchange knowledge, explore unfamiliar creative approaches, and build connections that extend beyond a single event.
FILSCAP plans to make the Asia Songwriting Master Camp a yearly event hosted by various Asian groups in the future.
As the eight compositions enter the next stage of the selection process, the inaugural gathering represents a promising step for Asia’s songwriting community. It celebrates the talent behind the music we listen to every day—and the creative possibilities that emerge when artists come together to turn different voices into a shared sound.
